So much planning is involved in having a baby. For us it was finding a bigger place (we moved in April), finding a daycare (we signed Mark up earlier this month), reviewing your hospital coverage (I've contacted Blue Cross Blue Shield numerous times) and the one I dreaded the most because it just seemed so time-consuming was figuring out how to get a breast pump.
First things first, I messaged Blue Cross Blue Shield and asked what my coverage allowed. Within 2 days they messaged me back with their blanket response for my insurance. A manual breast pump was covered at 100%. An electric breast pump was covered at 100% if received through a participating PPO provider. Or a rental one up to $1000 or for 12 months, whichever comes first.
I was now instructed to find a participating PPO provider that I could get one through. So, yet another to-do list item. Our pre-baby to-do list that I wrote about a month ago started with about 18 items on it. It is now sitting at 28 because we just keep adding action items, including this one!
However, I used my Google machine to search for participating PPO providers, and this is what I found.
The best website ever!
Edgepark - www.edgepark.com
It was literally as easy as 1-2-3!
I clicked on order breast pump, selected my state and insurance carrier, and then clicked determine coverage.
I was then able to select the breast pump, input my doctor's information, my insurance details and submitted the order.
Edgepark then contacted my insurance company to verify the insurance coverage and they also contacted my doctor to verify the pregnancy and the need for a breast pump. If for some reason I was not covered, Edgepark would send me an email with an invoice. I would pay it and then they would ship the breast pump.
I followed the above steps on Edgepark's website on Friday, July 22, and by Tuesday, July 26 I received an email with FedEx tracking information stating that I would receive my breast pump on Wednesday, July 27. They had already verified everything with Blue Cross Blue Shield and with my doctor! How awesome is that?! I was fretting over this to-do list item for no reason at all!
A 6-day total turnaround time (or 3 business days) is pretty darn good. I highly suggest going through this website to get your breast pump if you are expecting and have a need for a breast pump!
Seriously, just ask him... he will agree. How so? Well, he has passed on his even-keeledness and level-headedness to me, at least some. Sometimes something will happen and I will say, "Kara from 3 years ago would've freaked out about that." I used to not handle change very well; but my husband has taught me that there is no sense fretting over something that you can't control. And, you always want to ask yourself, is this the worst thing that can happen? No? Then don't worry about it.
The thing I am looking forward to most in this next year of marriage is seeing him gain the role of father. We both have great dads that have set an amazing example, and I know Dustin is going to rock at it!
Thanks to the generosity of my team, for my birthday, they all pitched in and gave me a gift card to this restaurant in Downtown Dallas with a great view, Five Sixty by Wolfgang Puck. Because Dustin and I had a regularly scheduled OBGYN follow-up appointment today, we decided we may as well head over to Five Sixty for some happy hour, appetizers and to take our weekly picture update.
It was a great time celebrating our love, friendship and marriage. And, quite possibly one of our last nice date nights for a while. So we made sure to enjoy every minute of it!
Are you married? If so, how long have you been married and what marriage advice would you give us newbies?
Growing up I never knew what a meal plan was. It was more of a shopping list; and that's about it. Thankfully a list is better than nothing though. How?
Have you ever gone into the grocery store without a list when you have to get groceries for a week or two? Add to that going there hungry? Oh man, my shopping cart would be full of chips, frozen pizzas and corn dogs. #sorrynotsorry
Then immediately upon getting home you would realize you forgot the three most important things you went there for. Am I right?!
When I am 100% on track with my eating, I eat the same 4-5 meals a day for the week. Granted, I might use different spices or sauces; and change up my breakfast. But typically it's all the same. It help me to stay on track. When that happens, I will use the meal planning and shopping list spreadsheet below that is for 5-6 meals per day by meal. However, when I'm a little more lax, as I have been throughout the end of my pregnancy, I will use the 3 meal plan and shopping list that is for 3 meals by day.
Feel free to download these PDFs of my shopping lists I will use. Simply click on the file below or the links above.
Do you have any tips or tricks for grocery shopping and meal planning? If so, I'm all ears!
From a young age you hear your parents and teachers say, "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Although, until you become an adult, I don't think you fully understand that. Boy do I though!
I seriously cannot go without eating breakfast. If I had it my way, a cinnamon crunch bagel from Panera would be in my meal plan every.single.morning. Those things are amazing! Wait...I just looked at the nutrition for one of those. The bagel alone sits at a whopping 430 calories! WHHHHAT! The sad thing though is that it isn't even that filling, and would not help my health and fitness goals in any way.
Last summer I started making crepes for Dustin and I and found that they were so delicious and super easy to make. And, to make the maintenance of making this every morning easier, you can complete steps 1 & 2 from the instructions below the night before. That way you only have steps 3-5 to complete when you wake up in the morning.
While I don't feel like these crepes actually need a topping, why don't you go for some sugar free syrup. A little bit goes a long way! Try the recipe below out and let me know what you think!
I went to a small private school. There were 23 in my graduating class, 13 of which were girls. Last year we had our 10 year high school reunion. Because we were a close knit class, we had a few days of events. One of those days was a beach day, which was amazing for this girl who no longer lives anywhere near a beach! Husband and I loved that day. While there, and the night before at our family dinner, we noticed everyone who had kids had blonde hair, blue eyed cuties. It was crazy to see!
Husband and I were in Jacksonville, going on the on-ramp at I-95 to head to the airport when he asked me how I felt about having a baby. I think he thought I would be apprehensive...but HECK NO, I was SO EXCITED! Why wouldn't I be? This is the man I am married to, the love of my life and my best friend for going on 6 years (at the time). Now, it's a mere 10 months after my high school reunion and 4 of the 13 girls I graduated with are pregnant; 3 of which have never been moms before! I think it's safe to say we were all smitten with the little blonde hair blue eyed babies at the high school reunion.
Below I answered 20 questions about my pregnancy. Enjoy!
Also, enjoy this time! I have had so much fun going through this experience with my husband, best friend and baby daddy! Every Saturday when a new week in my pregnancy starts, we open up the What To Expect app and watch the weekly video. Then we find a cool place to take a picture for our weekly picture updates. You can see them all here.
if you're pregnant, how has your pregnancy gone so far? I'd love to hear!
🎶 🎶 🎶...I'm ready to go. I'm standing here, outside your door. I hate to wake you up....to say...goodbye!...... 🎶 🎶 🎶
🎶 🎶 🎶 And I'm leavin', on a jet plane! 🎶 🎶 🎶
How many of you sang that? And, how many of you pictured the scene from Armageddon where Ben Affleck is about to get on the space ship and he sings that to Liv Tyler? No? Well, I did! I absolutely love that movie!
Hi there! I'm Kara, of taking KARA myself! I've dabbled in blogging off and on for a while now. Mostly off. But I'm trying to change that and make a dent in this side of the world wide web. Enjoy!
